The Shoemaker's shop, next to the Greenhow Tenement, is working through it wood pile trying to stay warm during the winter season. The exhibits in Colonial Williamsburg create authentic conditions and use wood fires (along with modern heat and air conditioning) in the shops.

That seems like quite a pile to get through to me here in scorching Perth, but I guess if it's freezing that pile of logs would disappear pretty quickly yeh! Really lovely looking building there.
That is a lot of wood to go through. I love what the house and shop looks like.
Wood piles are disappearing here too as neighbors burn through their wood in their fireplaces.

Are they in the shoemaker's shop also making shoes the old way? Perhaps that keep them also a little warm in winter.
The connotation of the word "tenement" has changed over the years, hasn't it? These are beautiful pieces of architecture.
I was raised in St. Augustine and our people went to Williamsburg to see how they did so many of their exhibits and restorations. What a wonderful place to live. I love the colonial time period.
You owuld be surprised at the amount of wood it takes to heat a small single story house for a winter.
