Grand Illumination, Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia

Sunday was the annual Grand Illumination at Colonial Williamsburg when the Christmas decorations were officially unveiled. Thousands of people enjoyed the decorations, lighting of the window candles, a variety of entertainment and fireworks over the Capitol, the Magazine and, as shown above, over the Governor's Palace. It was a very crowded but a great time.

We will post some of our favorite Christmas decorations and some of the events beginning tomorrow.

  1. Wonderful capture, the fireworks couldn't be more perfectly aligned with the Capitol to show it off!

  3. I don't know which is more striking. The fireworks or the night illumination on the Governor's Palace.

  4. Grand Illumination, how exciting. I have not thought about that tradition in a long time... Beautiful celebration in Williamsburg and also in Norfolk with fireworks on the Elizabeth River and the whold of downtown lighting its lights.
    Thanks for the memories,
    Have a great day.
    Always, Queenie
