The extensive archaeological work at Historic Jamestowne normally provides interesting insight into the beginning of the country. Recently it provided a stunning joint announcement by Historic Jamestowne, Colonial Williamsburg, and the Smithsonian Institution regarding widespread cannibalism during the "Starving Time" of 1609-10.
