Beach Wedding, Yorktown, Virginia

On a recent trip to Yorktown's Riverwalk Landing, we saw this simple yet picturesque wedding set up on the beach. Though the day was gray, the beautiful location and backdrop created a perfect beach wedding.

Rocky Beach, Williamsburg, Virginia

Archer's Hope Beach with Cypress

The long, rocky beach at Archer's Hope on the Colonial Parkway in Williamsburg, provides a great place to walk and swim in the James River. However, the James is a tidal river and as the tide rises and falls much of the beach disappears.

York River State Park provide beautiful vistas along the river, wooded hiking trails and wildlife. One area of interest is "Fossil Beach" which provides a great place to find the remains of various shell fish and other aquatic life on beach and the steep embankment along the beach. Strict regulations regarding collecting and keeping them apply.

Summer Fun on the Colonial Parkway, Williamsburg, Virginia

The Colonial Parkway provides a number of beach areas on the James and York Rivers where familes and their four legged friends can enjoy a little summer fun.  Both rivers are tidal rivers and have a mix of salt and fresh water known as "brackish."  So, you get the feel and smell of the ocean, a little bit of wave action but, the wooded habitat of most rivers.  The dogs don't seem to care about any of that as long as they have something to chase into the water.

Riverwalk Landing, Yorktown, Virginia

One of the things we miss doing because of the cold weather here, is walking on the beach front at Riverwalk Landing in Yorktown.  Yorktown is just 15 - 20 minutes from Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia and when we go we make the trip extra special by driving the Colonial Parkway.  Since we moved here over two years ago, this has become one of our favorite things to do. Just thought we would share a few photos from there.
