The Wythe House in Colonial Williamsburg, Williamsburg, Virginia

This is a portion of the backyard of the George Wythe House at Colonial Williamsburg; one of the great homes in town.  Located on the Palace Green in plain view of the Governor's Palace, it shows the influence and wealth of its owner.  Wythe was a signer of the Declaration of Independence and the first law professor in America (at William & Mary), teaching the likes of Thomas Jefferson and John Marshall.   The yard displays the symmetry popular in colonial times.

A beautiful and well preserved old house. So much history hidden inside.

My eyes are looking right down that path, and I wish I could walk in the door! My word, most houses don't have such an imposing entrance even at the front!! Hmmm...the front must be outrageous!
