Jamestown Island Canal, Williamsburg, Virginia
On the scenic drive on Jamestown Island, you cross several little tidal canals, like this, where crabs and other animals search the muddy banks for a bite to eat at low tide then rush to the protection of the tall grass as the water reclaims the passage.

Bald Cypress, Jamestown Island, Virginia
A cluster of bald cypress trees stands in these tidal waters partially surrounding Jamestown Island. When the tide is out their long, curved roots are visible. An osprey sits atop her nest on the nearest tree.

The sun began to set over College Creek and peeked over the hill to provide a touch of light and color. The tide was low as the muddy embankments are visible on both sides.

The Heron And The Goose, Williamsburg, Virginia
We've always heard that birds of a feather flock together; apparently, someone forgot to tell this blue heron and canada goose. They seemed quite content to share the end of this little mud bar extending into the water.
