Winter Gardening In Colonial Williamsburg, Williamsburg, Virginia

The gardeners at Colonial Williamsburg's Colonial Nursery are already planting and growing the old-fashioned way.  Bell jars act as individual greenhouses for some plants, while straw and fabric provide cover for others. The large water barrel for the nursery is seen in the background.

Love Williamsburg, enjoy seeing how they do things the old fashioned way. I too enjoy the music playing...really sets the Williamsburg mood!

Wow, gardening! We are nowhere near being able to do that in Montreal, the ground is still fozen solid and under snow here!

I love your photos! I think you capture the town amazingly, but I love the photos of the nursery. I'll be sure to use your blog as a guide when we go to visit. We're actual looking at Williamsburg VA real estate in hopes of moving here soon. Thank you for posting!

Lovely photos, which just make me want to have a vegetable garden like this.

Do you know why they have the horizontal frame over the seedlings in the top photo? Would it be to provide a frame for the plant to grow up through, or to deter birds or something?
