The View From Above, Yorktown, Virginia

VIMS from the Coleman Bridge

This is part of the view from atop the Coleman Bridge which spans the York River from Yorktown to Gloucester. The large building at the foot of the bridge is the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, which is part of the College of William & Mary. The bridge is one of the few that rotate two spans to allow ships to pass through rather than being a draw bridge.  Naval and Coast Guard ships, as well as barges, pass through regularly.

Nice photo! You just don't see many movable bridges these days. We had a very old drawbridge in this area that was finally taken out of service. It was the Terminal Island Drawbridge.
