Return Of The Yorktown Onion, Yorktown, Virginia
It is the season for the return of the Yorktown Onion; a tall, gangly, yet strangely appealing wild plant, about three feet tall with a three inch purple head which, in the U.S., is apparently native only to York County, Virginia. It is so much a part of local heritage that one of the gift shops at Riverwalk Landing is named after the plant. Obviously, bees like them as much as we do.

Waw, the first photo is a totally winner ;-)
Fantastic macro shot.
A receptive home for hungry visitors! Interesting that it's native only to York County.
Gorgeous shots, the first closeup is my favorite.
Those only grow there in York Co, Va? WoW! That's crazy! Love that deep purple!
Thanks so much for stopping by... =)
