Robin Eating Berries In The Snow, Williamsburg, Virginia

We caught this chubby little fellow, along with many friends, eating the berries off our trees, despite the snow. We never saw robins flock like this before; counting thirty-five at once.

Vulture Encounter, Yorktown, Virginia

This large vulture popped over the water with the morning sun on his back, giving a burst of color to its normally dark almost black plumage. With a five foot wingspan, it creates quite a presence when this close.

Hummingbird, Williamsburg, Virginia

This beautiful hummingbird and several of his friends take turns sitting on this jasmine sprig while resting between turns sipping nectar from the feeders. The arbor tubing is about one inch in diameter, to give you scale for the size of the hummingbird.

Cardinal, Williamsburg, Virginia

The cardinal perched in a magnolia tree to get the bird's eye view of the events of the day. He kindly posed for this shot.

Nesting Osprey, Colonial Parkway, Williamsburg, Virginia

In a large, dead tree along the James River and the Colonial Parkway, we saw this pair of osprey working on their nest. We saw one leave the nest and return a few minutes later with new material in its talons, capturing this shot as he landed. It was fascinating to watch.

This birdhouse replica of the colonial capitol is one of our favorite unique structures in town.

Snow Birds, Williamsburg, Virginia

We received another couple inches of snow yesterday. These little guys are not deterred in waiting for us to vacate the yard so they can visit the bird feeders.

We noticed this unique birdhouse in the dormer on the garage at the President's house at the College of William & Mary. We never saw one like this before.

Canada Geese On The Creek, Williamsburg, Virginia

These geese took a break from to gently bob on the creek and bask in the sunlight. 

The Heron And The Goose, Williamsburg, Virginia

We've always heard that birds of a feather flock together; apparently, someone forgot to tell this blue heron and canada goose.  They seemed quite content to share the end of this little mud bar extending into the water.

Cormorant Hangout, Williamsburg, Virginia

These cormorants sat on giant pylon to warm themselves in the sun waiting for the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry to load the last car so they can wave goodbye.

Capitol Birdhouse, Williamsburg, Virginia

We found this birdhouse, shaped like the colonial Capitol building, in a park in Williamsburg. We wonder if they debate bird laws in there?

Great Blue Heron On The York River, Yorktown, Virginia

This Great Blue Heron entertained us as it searched for breakfast in the waters along a rock jetty in the York River. He is about four feet tall with a wingspan of roughly 70 inches.

Harris' Hawk, Jack Hanna's Wild Reserve, Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Virginia

This Harris' Hawk is one of the beautiful animals on display at Busch Gardens Williamsburg's Jack Hanna's Wild Reserve.  It is native to the deserts in the south west of North America and is the only social hawk.  They hunt in packs and females build and share one nest in which they hatch and raise their young together.

This heron watchfully rests on a tree stump at the edge of the York River on a cold January day on the Colonial Parkway.

Oversized Birdhouse, Colonial Williamsburg, Williamsburg, Virginia

This huge birdhouse is in the rear of the Wythe House in Colonial Williamsburg.  Wythe was a lawyer, the nations first law professor, and an extraordinarily prominent man in colonial times.

Gyrfalcon at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Williamsburg, Virginia

This Gyrfalcon is named "Nimbus" and was on display at Jack Hanna's Wild Reserve at Busch Gardens Williamsburg.  The Gyrfalcon can be found throughout the Arctic Circle; is the national bird of Iceland; and, is the U.S. Air Force mascot bird.  The Gyrfalcon is the largest of the falcons and ranges in color from pure white to pure black.

Eagle, Jack Hannah Reserve, Busch Gardens, Williamsburg, Virginia

Busch Gardens has a long history of wildlife conservation at its Williamsburg and Tampa locations.  Here, one of the eagles in the Jack Hanna Wild Reserve in Williamsburg posed ever so nicely.  The eagles on Eagle Ridge are all injured and, therefore, unable to fend for themselves in the wild. They are provided a very nice living environment and provide an exciting up close experience to kids of all ages..

Goose at Jamestown Island, Williamsburg, Virginia

The views along the James River are so beautiful even the geese enjoy the veiw from Historic Jamestown Island.  She is basking in the sun watching the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry arriving at the pier.  In the background you can see the entry way with cars waiting to board.
