Welcome to an almost daily peek at our beautiful Williamsburg, Virginia which includes the "Historic Triangle" consisting of Colonial Williamsburg -the world’s largest living history museum- Yorktown and Jamestown.
This gate to one of the properties in Colonial Williamsburg includes a gate closer; a chain with metal ball heavy enough to pull the gate shut, unless you prop it open like we did.
I always like to see the clever methods of older days when mechanism only works with gravity. Also placing the gate oblique (hope it is the right word) that it always falls shut is such method still in use.

Oh wow, I'd never seen anything like it!

I put one of those on the gate to the 1887 Christ Church in Rugby several years ago. They work well. Jim

An interesting work of engineering! I've never been to Williamsburg, but I'm loving all the shots on your blog!
These folks were so darn inventive. I just might use this one on one of our gates...
