This hedge has always been a bit of a curiosity to us; it is grown so that it appears to hover just above this small gate. It is too low for anyone other than a young child to go through without bending low. But it is very attractive.

Jamestown Island Canal, Williamsburg, Virginia
On the scenic drive on Jamestown Island, you cross several little tidal canals, like this, where crabs and other animals search the muddy banks for a bite to eat at low tide then rush to the protection of the tall grass as the water reclaims the passage.

Glass House Vase, Jametown Island, Virginia
One of the great stops is the Glass House on Jamestown Island, near the site of the actual Jamestown Fort. It was one of the first commercial enterprises set up by the 1607 settlers. This is one of the fine, hand-blown pieces made on site and offered for sale.

Felicity In Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia
American Girl has a variety of dolls from various areas and time periods for which they create historical fiction book series. Felicity was the doll in Colonial Williamsburg. Our daughter, along with a number of other girls, brought their dolls and had tea and etiquette lessons as well as learning colonial style dancing. It was a great way to learn history through reading and play. Unfortunately, we believe they retired Felicity but the books should still be available.

Winter Pruning, Williamsburg, Virginia
These woody shrubs are included in a number of gardens in the area and all get this same odd cropping for winter. The knotty ends look odd, particularly in the evening with dim lights.
