The Coleman Bridge spans the York River from Yorktown to Gloucester Point. To accommodate large naval ships and cargo barges, the middle spans rotate on the two large, round columns in the middle. Despite its functionality, it is attractive bathed in the late day sun.

Sunrise, Yorktown, Virginia

We woke early yesterday to capture the sunrise in Yorktown; we were not disappointed.  A bright pink and orange sky reflected through the street lamps brought the river to life and silhouetted the barges waiting at the mouth of the York River to finish their cargo delivery. A perfect start to a beautiful day. The excursion was prompted by our awesome pastors at the Williamsburg Community Chapel (shameless plug) encouraging the congregation to catch a sunrise or sunset to better appreciate creation.

Farewell Alliance, Yorktown, Virginia

The schooner Alliance sails the York River and Chesapeake during the summer but will soon make its annual fall migration south to warmer weather and a new group of tourists.

The Virginia, a recreation of the last all-sail schooner built for the Virginia Pilot Association, made a brief stop at Yorktown. She has a 126 foot sparred length and a 24 foot beam. The Virginia takes up to 46 passengers on a day sail.
