This "chia" dog used to stand outside of Aroma's, a popular coffeehouse and restaurant near the colonial district. It has been replaced with two cute metal puppies. Dogs are welcome at the outside portion of the restaurant with water dishes provided.

Scary Birdhouse, Williamsburg, Virginia

This unusual birdhouse would seem to deter visitors, but as the nesting material dangling from the mouth proves, some birds are not chickens.

The Whaling Company is a local restaurant whose nautical architecture we really like. Even the lamps in the parking lot have a nautical feel.  Of course, they specialize in seafood.

The Old Chickahominy House is a local restaurant icon serving yummy, family style meals as well as selling antiques and gifts since 1955.

Williamsburg Winery, Williamsburg, Virginia

The Williamsburg Winery Ltd. is the largest winery in Virginia, producing over 60,000 cases per year. They offer tours, wine tasting, and sales of wine and related items on site.  The winery is a small "old world style" village surrounded by more than 50 acres of vineyards.  The scenery, buildings, iron work and decor is beautiful plus there is an elegant "country hotel" called Wedmore Place as well as the Gabriel Archer Tavern on site.

The Cheese Shop is a popular restaurant at Colonial Williamsburg's Merchant Square. They sell a variety of deli foods, soups, salads, and, of course, cheese along with wines and beers.  It's a great place to sit, relax, and enjoy a bite.

Jamestown Pie Company, Williamsburg, Virginia

In a small, unassuming building on Jamestown Road incredible food is made every day.  The Jamestown Pie Company is a local favorite, making pies of all types; pizza, nut, pot pie, key lime, custard, fruit, and pecan, to name just a few. They now have a second location at Oyster Point in Newport News and we also see them at the Williamsburg Farmers Market at Merchant Square.

Their motto is, "Because Round Food is Good Food." And, it is good.

Pierce's Bar-B-Que, Williamsburg, Virginia

Well, what can you say about Pierce's except "Yum!" This is a wildly popular place with locals and tourists.   Not fine dining, but very fine eating.   If we were you, and you are planning a visit to our beautiful Williamsburg area, most definitely make time for a stop a Pierce's Bar-B-Que. : )
