The Potter

This bronze statue of James "Jimmy" Maloney (April 5, 1912 - July 18, 2005) stands in a beautiful courtyard between buildings at The Pottery shopping center. Maloney founded the Williamsburg Potter in 1938 and built it into a thriving business. The facility became a shopping destination. Recently, a new shopping area was built on site and the pottery buildings are no longer used.  This fitting tribute is part of the new facility.

The Sign Post, York River State Park, Norge, Virginia

York River State Park Sign

Most sign posts are bland and barely functional; we particularly liked this one.  The York River State Park offers hiking, biking, and horse riding trails as well as a beach and beautiful views of the York River. Its sign posts were colorful and eye catching.  It is yet another great Virginia park.

The Pottery, Williamsburg, Virginia

This is the newly built "Pottery" near Williamsburg. For years the outlet stores and shops were located in a pottery factory, much of which is still on the grounds, until this "English village" style shop was built. This is a small portion of the property which offers some unique shopping opportunities.

The Knitting Sisters 8th Anniversary, Williamsburg, Virginia

The Knitting Sisters is a quaint knitting, crochet, and all things related - shop in the Village Shops at Kingsmill  and is celebrating its 8th anniversary. It is a place where our daughter and I (Ruth) love having any excuse to visit. They have the most beautiful yarns and demonstration pieces.   About a year ago,  our daughter attempted to knit a baby blanket for a new little cousin with the beautiful yarns and a pattern from the shop. She had little or no experience knitting, but the extremely friendly and helpful staff at the Knitting Sisters helped her through the process.  Her finished blanket is above. If you are ever in Williamsburg  area and have any interest in yarns, pop on over to the  Village Shops at Kingsmill, The Knitting Sisters is well worth the visit!
